G. Verdi | Rigoletto – “Bella figlia dell’amore”, Act III, sc. 12 (1851)
 
Giuseppe Verdi is arguably among the greatest opera composers of all times. His phenomenal expressive capabilities, melodic inventiveness and theatrical sensitivity made him extremely successful in life and beyond. Rigoletto is one of his most loved and represented operas, despite its controversial subject in a moment of political turmoil made it initially hard to and reach the public. Of the many unforgettable arias of the opera, Bella figlia dell’amore (beautiful daughter of love) is probably the greatest masterpiece as well as the one the best synthetizes the opera in a single scene. Here the conflicting nature and emotional status of each of the four characters is masterfully represented in music, in an intertwining of voices that is an exquisite example of counterpoint and emotional captivation at the same time.
