J. Pachelbel - Canon in D - P 37 (1680 ~ 1706)
Pachelbel’s Canon in D is probably the greatest and most mysterious example of the alternating fame a music pieces can have over time. Composed in late 17th century as a Canon and Gigue by German Baroque organist Johan Pachelbel in unknown circumstances, the piece faded into obscurity for centuries, together with its author. Its fortune changed suddenly after 1968, when Jean-François Paillard chamber orchestra made a recording with a slower tempo and more modern interpretation, emphasizing its sense of beauty, serenity, and celebration. Since then, the Canon in D gained enormous popularity over the 1970s and 1980s until today, becoming one of the most popular pieces of classical music among generalist public all over the world, accompanying countless weddings and inspiring dozens of rock and pop arrangements.
