W.A. Mozart | Flute concerto in G maj KV 313 – Allegro maestoso (1778)

Among Mozart’s immense production, only few compositions are dedicated to the flute, all composed during his tour in Paris and Mannheim between December 1777 and April 1778. Most of these, including the concerto in G major, were ordered by the wealthy Dutch official Ferdinand De Jean, who was also an amateur flutist and desired original pieces to execute. Curiously enough, despite Mozart’s lack of enthusiasm - in his own words - for writing a concerto for an instrument he disliked, he ended up composing a masterpiece that would be ever loved by both flutists and listeners thereafter. The concerto is indeed a technically brilliant, structurally balanced, and musically rich composition, which makes the most of the very characteristics of flute as a soloist instrument.
