Probably one of the most beloved and played piano pieces ever written, Claude Debussy’s Clair de lune (moonlight) from its suite bergamasque is a timeless masterpiece of late-romantic lyrism and impressionist experimentation, despite Debussy refused the definition. Its mysterious, intimate sonority takes the listeners by hand and accompany them in a dreamlike carousel of gentle emotions, from the tonal suggestion of the initial theme, to the two-handed chords of the tempo rubato, to the unforgettable poco mosso of the central part of the piece, that releases the chromatic tension of the previous bars laying the composition’s main melodic idea on the unfolding of wide arpeggios played with the left hand.
