Chopin – Nocturne op. 62 n. 1 (1845 - 1846)
Chopin’s nocturnes are probably his best known and most loved pieces. Their composition spans throughout all Chopin’s life, from the first nocturne in C minor composed at 15-year-old, to the two nocturnes op. 62 composed just 3 years before his death. These very last two are indeed of a slightly different specie from most of the others. The nocturne op. 62 n. 1 in particular shares the gentle and smooth feeling that is typical of the nocturne genre, yet with a deeper and richer contrapuntal weaving, a particularly articulated rhythmic texture and a more mature musical effect overall, with a hidden beauty that goes far beyond the catchy melody and the many trills and grace notes that embellish the return of the theme.
