J. S. Bach | Mass in B minor, BWV 232 - Gloria (1 - 33) (1733-1749)
Bach’s Mass in B min is the work of a lifetime. Started in 1733 to greet the new Catholic sovereign August III of Poland, the work eventually took all of Bach’s life for completion, being finished just one year before his death. Together with the Art of the Fugue, it is considered the highest summation of Bach’s immense experimentation, invention and perfecting in the field of counterpoint, here elaborated with the sound richness of a 14 elements orchestra and 5 elements choir. Among the many magnificent musical moments that follow one another over the almost 2 hours of playing, the Gloria has a unique power, brightness, and elegance, meant to represent the celebration of the new sovereign after the mourning of the Kyrie that precedes it.
