Bach | Contrapunctus 1 - Die Kunst der Fuge BWV 1080 (1751)
Published incomplete in 1751, the art of the fugue is the culmination of J. S. Bach’s instrumental work, a summation of all his learnings and inventions in the field of counterpoint. The theoretical importance that Bach attributed to the opera was so high that he did not specify its instrumentation, almost as if he wanted the art of the fugue be an absolute representation of the music’s expression possibilities, untied to the limitations of any specific instrument. The first Contrapunctus, here presented in its piano transcription, is the founding stone of the composition, presenting the main subject and the musical ideas that lead the whole work.
